Fibre Reinforced Screed Contractors in London & the South East

O. C. Floor Screeding installs fibre reinforced screed on domestic and commercial projects across London and the South East. With over 30 years' experience, we lay it in extensions, new builds, renovations, apartments, schools, offices and industrial buildings.

Fibre screed, also called PP fibre or reinforced screed, is a sand and cement screed with polypropylene fibres mixed evenly through it. The fibres reduce shrinkage and settlement cracking and make the finished floor tougher and more resistant to impact.

We believe fibres make for a better floor, so we add them to all of our screed systems as standard. Every screed is mixed on site in our own screed pumps, giving us full control over the quality of the materials that go into your floor.

WHAT IS FIBRE SCREED?

Polypropylene fibres (PP fibres) are added to a sand and cement screed and thoroughly dispersed during mixing. Adding products to the basic screed mix like this is known as using admixtures. The fibres inhibit shrinkage and settlement cracking, increase strength and make the screed more impact resistant. Fibre screed can be laid bonded, unbonded or floating, over insulation and with underfloor heating.

Why Choose Fibre Reinforced Screed?

Benefits of Fibre Reinforced Screed

  • Reduces plastic shrinkage and settlement cracking.

  • Increases the durability and toughness of the screed.

  • Improves resistance to impact and abrasion.

  • Particularly suited to underfloor heating systems.

  • Can be used in bonded, unbonded and floating constructions.

  • Suitable for both domestic and commercial projects.

  • Can be combined with fast drying additives where a quicker drying time is needed.

We add polypropylene fibres to all of our screed systems as standard because we believe they give a more durable floor with better resistance to shrinkage cracking.

FAQs

What is fibre reinforced screed?

Fibre reinforced screed is a traditional sand and cement screed containing polypropylene fibres, which are evenly dispersed throughout the mix. These fibres help improve the performance and durability of the screed.

Why are fibres added to screed?

Polypropylene fibres help reduce plastic shrinkage and settlement cracking whilst increasing the toughness and impact resistance of the screed.

Is fibre screed suitable for underfloor heating?

Yes. PP fibre reinforced screed is particularly suitable for underfloor heating systems because the fibres help minimise shrinkage and cracking caused by thermal movement.

Can PP fibre screed be used in domestic properties?

Yes. Fibre reinforced screed is suitable for domestic and commercial projects and can be laid bonded, unbonded or floating.

Is fibre reinforced screed stronger than standard screed?

The fibres improve the toughness and crack resistance of the screed, giving enhanced performance compared with a plain sand and cement screed.

Do I still need steel mesh reinforcement?

For most domestic projects, PP fibres are adequate. In other situations, such as load-bearing floors, steel mesh may be required. Call us if you need advice.

Can PP fibre screed be made fast drying?

Yes. Fast drying additives can be added to fibre reinforced screed where a quicker drying time is needed.
