Liquid Screed Contractors in London & the South East

O. C. Floor Screeding installs liquid screed on domestic and commercial projects across London and the South East. With over 30 years' experience across a full range of screed systems, we can advise whether liquid screed is the right choice for your floor.

Liquid screed, known technically as anhydrite screed and also called flowing or poured screed, was originally developed for large, continuous spaces. It is self-levelling and is poured through hoses directly onto a floor covered with a damp proof membrane, making it quick to apply.

Anhydrite screed reduces cracking, is lightweight and high strength, and can be used over insulation and with underfloor heating, where its excellent thermal conductivity is a real advantage.

WHAT IS LIQUID SCREED?

Liquid screed is poured via hoses onto a floor covered with a damp proof membrane. Tripods are placed within the screed to check the depth, while our screeders use dappling bars to spread the screed and remove air pockets. Because it flows, the area must be fully contained, with plastic sheeting laid and lapped at the edges to stop the screed escaping.

FAQs

Is liquid screed suitable for underfloor heating?

Yes. It is well suited to underfloor heating thanks to its excellent thermal conductivity and its ability to fully surround the heating pipes.

How long does liquid screed take to dry?

Liquid screed dries at roughly 0.5mm a day, so it is actually one of the slower drying screed systems. If your project needs faster drying times, our fast drying screeds may be a better fit.

What floor preparation is needed before laying liquid screed?

Plastic sheeting needs to be laid and lapped at the edges to stop the liquid screed escaping. With underfloor heating, sheeting is laid and lapped both under and on top of the insulation boards to protect them from the chemicals in the screed.

Does liquid screed need preparing before floor finishes go down?

Yes. As it dries, a surface laitance (a layer of hardened powder) forms, which needs sanding, and a latex layer may then be needed to give a smooth base. Tiles do not bond well to liquid screed.

Is liquid screed suitable for every project?

No. Different projects have different requirements, and we can recommend the most suitable system for you from our wide range of screeds.
