Screed Reinforcement in London & the South East

O. C. Floor Screeding provides screed reinforcement for domestic and commercial projects across London and the South East. With over 30 years' experience, we can advise on the right reinforcement for your floor, its loading and how it will be used.

Reinforcement helps to prevent cracking, curling and shrinkage while the screed dries, and it controls and redirects any cracks that do occur. Screed reinforcement comes in two forms: polypropylene (PP) fibres or wire mesh.

We add PP fibres to all of our screed systems as standard. Where a floor needs to cope with heavy loads or high footfall, we can embed galvanised wire mesh within the screed to strengthen it further.

WHAT IS SCREED REINFORCEMENT?

Mesh reinforcement is best for sites that must endure heavy loads and high footfall. Galvanised wire mesh is embedded within the screed to improve its strength, and it can be combined with other types of screed, such as granolithic screed, to form a structural floor. PP fibres are mixed through the screed itself and are adequate for most domestic projects.

Why Reinforce Your Screed?

Benefits of Screed Reinforcement

  • Helps prevent cracking, curling and shrinkage during drying.

  • Controls and redirects any cracks that do occur.

  • Galvanised wire mesh adds strength for heavy loads and high footfall.

  • PP fibres improve toughness and impact resistance.

  • Can be combined with other screed types to improve floor performance.

  • Suitable for domestic, commercial and industrial floors.

We can recommend the right reinforcement, whether fibres, mesh or both, based on how your floor will be used.

FAQs

What types of screed reinforcement are there?

There are two main forms: polypropylene (PP) fibres, which are mixed through the screed, and galvanised wire mesh, which is embedded within it.

Do I need mesh or are fibres enough?

For most domestic projects, PP fibres are adequate. Steel mesh may be required for floors that take heavy loads or high footfall, such as load-bearing or industrial floors. Call us if you need advice.

Does reinforcement stop screed cracking?

Reinforcement helps to prevent cracking, curling and shrinkage, and it controls and redirects any cracks that do occur, giving a more durable floor.

Can reinforcement be used with other screed types?

Yes. Mesh reinforcement can be combined with other screeds to improve the floor's performance. For example, wire mesh can be used with granolithic screed to form a structural screed.

Do you add fibres to all your screeds?

Yes. We use PP fibres as standard in all of our screed systems because we believe they give a higher quality, more durable floor.
